You need to ask for referrals. I don’t want to come across as bashing referrals, because I think it’s an amazing source of business and it’s free. If you have a customer base or client base, go to those clients and ask them, “Look, if you like my work, who could you recommend and who could benefit from it?” I can guarantee that there are at least 20, 50, 100,000 or maybe even a million dollars’ worth of referrals in your current base of clients.
You need to actively ask for your clients who do they know and do they know anyone who could use your service. Ask if they could recommend you to them and could you shoot them a small e-mail.
What I would recommend is actually type an e-mail or a template for your clients and say, “Hey, can you just fill in the blanks here and just send it to people who you could recommend me to?” Don’t wait for referrals, you need to be proactive and you need to go out.
